Despite all the hype around Lady Gaga and the return of Eminem, the big name stars were beaten in the race to claim the 2010 Singles Download Chart top spot by the arrival of Kesha.
“Tik Tok”, the wild-child singer’s first single from her debut album, sold a massive 12.8 million downloads, blasting the previous year’s winner, “Poker Face”, by three to one.
The single, which only achieved a chart position of number four in the UK, brushed aside Gaga’s “Bad Romance” and the huge Eminem/Rihanna collaboration “Love The Way You Lie” to claim the accolade.
Considering so much has been made over spiraling piracy problems in the industry, the report showing that over 80 million download sales made up the top ten of 2010 proved that many are still willing to pay for decent music from a legitimate source.
The digital single top ten chart also featured another Gaga hit, Telephone, in fourth, followed by Usher, Katy Perry, Train, Justin Bieber, the Black Eyed Peas and Paramore.
