Is Britney Spears really back to her poptastic best? You would be a fool for thinking otherwise as her single entered the US chart at number 1.
The frequently talked about star has already set US airwaves alight by having a record breaking amount of airplay since the single, Hold it Against Me, was released, and that bar-setting performance has continued into the sales figures.
Since its official release for purchase, the song has shifted a massive 411,000 downloads, making it the highest ever for a female performer and secured a position at the top of the Billboard chart.
The single was produced by Max Martin and Dr Luke, and is the first track from Spears’ upcoming, much speculated about album. Many critics and fans had worried about the quality of music considering some of the less than inspired released the star has made in recent years. With Hold It Against Me, though, many fears of a flop have been well and truly buried.
The song knocked Bruno Mars’ Grenade of the top stop into second place, and pushed Katy Perry to third.
