Parents Group Petitions Congress, Attorney General to explore MTV for Child Pornography in 'Skins' Series

The media watchdog group entitled on lawmakers and law enforcement administrators Thursday to open an inquiry on the subject of possible child pornography and development on the cable network's new series “Skins.”

“On January 17, the Viacom-owned cable network MTV aired a teenager-based drama, ‘Skins.’ The episode incorporated all method of stinking language, illegal drug use, illegal activity as well as thoroughly invasive sexual content,” PTC President Tim Winter said in a letter sent to the chairmen of the U.S. governing body and House Judiciary Committees and the Department of Justice. “Many of the actors emerging in the show are under the age of 18. It is clear that Viacom has intentionally produced material that may well be in contravention of [several] federal statutes."

“Since it is not essential for Viacom or MTV to share out the material in order to be in breach of the law, we call upon your committees to immediately investigate Viacom and MTV for the invention of this material," winter said in the announcement. "Furthermore, we advise you in the strongest possible conditions to oblige the Attorney General to rise an investigation by the Department of Justice into whether the production of ‘Skins’ has despoiled federal law meant to protect minors from exploitation.”

The controversial British import series “Skins” made its entrance on the cable network last Monday, reasoning uproar for its frank representation of teenage sex and drug use. But unlike MTV’s envelope-pushing shows of the past, “Skins” features underage actors engage in sexual situations. The youngest star of the show is 15.
