According to TMZ, Lohan thinks that her latest legal woes are purely political. Sources say Lindsay believes she's being used as a very public example to further prosecutor Danette Meyers' career, as Meyers is currently running for L.A. County District Attorney.
But, as TMZ points out, Meyers actually asked to be removed from the case on Friday (Judge Stephanie Sautner denied her request). What's more, a misdemeanor theft case—regardless of its ability to draw paparazzi to the courthouse—is not exactly the sort of work that gets a DA hired.
Who is next on Lindsay's blame game list? We're betting Michael Lohan stands a good shot.

"I know that I didn’t do it the right way," she said of her relationship with Cibrian, whom she met on the set of the movie Northern Lights in 2009. "I didn’t have the tools to know how to do it the right way...I'm not glad it happened, but I know why it did."
When revelations of their affair surfaced in March 2009, Rimes and Cibrian handled the allegations differently.
"I didn’t confirm nor deny it, and he denied it," Rimes said. "We both tried and worked at our own marriages but we both knew it wasn’t working. And with two kids involved it was a much harder decision for him to make."
Rimes and her ex-husband, Dean Sheremet, divorced in December 2009, three months after Cibrian split from his wife of eight years, Brandi Glanville.
"What people don’t understand is that it wasn’t about Dean or Eddie, it was about whether or not I was in the right place," Rimes said.
Rimes, who lives with Cibrian and his two sons from his previous marriage, is excited to play a new role: stepmom.

Does that count as community service?
RELATED: Lindsay Lohan did not get off
There has been no leakage yet, as far as what the rehabbed starlet—who wore a satiny black jumpsuit for the occasion—had to say, but at least she had a movie role to talk about in addition to, er, other stuff.
Really, this is quite the coup for Leno. The Late Show With David Letterman only thought it was getting Lohan to read the Top Ten list in February, a few days after she posted $40,000 bail after pleading not guilty to felony theft and getting slapped with jail time for—say it with us, folks—probation violation.
But while he doesn't ask the toughest questions, it's not like Leno can ignore Lindsay's current predicament. She's got a trial on her now misdemeanor theft charge ahead of her, plus 480 hours of community service, including 120 at the L.A. County Morgue, for continuing to get into trouble while still on probation for dual DUIs in 2007.
In fact, we bet they shared more than a few laughs.

AnnaLynne McCord and Kellan Lutz can't seem to quit each other! These two have been on-again, off-again over the last few months and after they were spotted laughing and smiling at LAX this week, it seems as though they're an item again.
The two were seen making their way through LAX together on Tuesday night and headed to Vancouver, where Lutz is filming Breaking Dawn with the rest of the Twilight cast. "They were playful with each other," a witness said (vis Us magazine). "Laughing and smiling at everything!"
The 90210 actress and her Twilight hunk called it quits in the fall of 2010, but were seen together at a hotel a few weeks later, and then they embraced for the cameras at a party not long after that. So, perhaps they never split at all!
Even if these two are really back together, they probably won't talk much about their relationship. They never have. Kellan's most revealing interview about his then-girlfriend gave little insight into their relationship: "I've known her for six years, and we met again on the set [of 90210], but we shot Abercrombie [catalogs] way back in the day," he said in late 2009.

Just as Hermione's enrollment at Hogwart's was bound to come to an end, Harry Potter star Emma Watson will be transferring from Brown University to another school in the fall.
Watson's rep Vanessa Davies explained the decision by saying the actress, 21, had decided to pursue courses not currently offered at the Rhode Island school, according to The New York Times.
And as for reports that Watson's change of heart was a result of being bullied on campus, Davies shuts down that theory, saying the star – who turned 21 April 15 – had in fact developed a network of friends and "absolutely loved her time at Brown."
No word yet on which school the actress, who is currently taking time off from studying to focus on making movies, will be headed to in the fall. keep reading at people.

"They think that I'm a good cook," Roberts, 43, told PEOPLE at the premiere. "They actually told me that I should open a restaurant."
Henry, 3, and twins Hazel and Phinnaeus, 6, say their favorite dish is "everything made with love," Roberts said.
For now, though, Roberts is focused on her film, which she worked on with her older sister Lisa Gillan, who co-produced, and her husband, cinematographer Danny Moder, who shot it.
"It was so great to be working on the same movie with him. He's so good at what he does. He's so clear and focused," Roberts said of Moder, whom she met while working on 2001's The Mexican. "It's actually hard to get his attention on the set because he's really like, 'No, I'm working.' But at lunch I will be like, 'Hi, remember me, your wife?' "
As for working with her sister, Roberts, who walked the red carpet with Lisa, says filming went smoothly thanks to their strong bond. In fact, it's rare that they will have a fight.
"We are always happy. We maybe will have an argument once a year just to get it out of our system so we don't make people sick," Roberts said with her signature boisterous laugh. "We've shared a room for 12 years and we lived in the same apartment building. We liked living together. So we know everything about each other. We're very close."
Working with loved ones certainly makes the film-making experience richer but Roberts also enjoyed her role as a producer, rather than the leading lady.
"The best part for me being a producer was creating an environment that makes actors comfortable," the Eat, Pray, Love star said. "It's about not bugging them and trusting them. The actors took the parts that we already loved and turned them into these glorious machinations of quirky, amazing characters, so we were thrilled."

If you thought your Easter weekend of traveling around to relatives houses and scrambling to whip up some tasty treats was busy and erratic, you’ve got nothing on Lindsay Lohan.
The starlet was sentenced to 120 days in jail on Friday, and after nearly five hours in custody following her hearing, Lohan posted bail and is — for now, at least — a free woman. She is expected to appeal the judge’s decision of jail time.
TMZ reports Lohan was “blindsided” by the jail sentence she received, as many had speculated that if her charges were reduced from felony theft to misdemeanor charges, she would be able to escape any time behind bars. For some reason, that didn’t happen and she was hit with three months of hard time and 480 hours of community service.

After debuting with anemic ratings, the half-hour comedy sank even lower on Thursday, drawing 2.5 million viewers and a 0.9 rating in the key 18-49 demographic, down 18 percent. Meantime, its lead-in, a clip show-inspired "Community" (3.3 million, 1.5) that had viewers raving online, was up 7 percent.
Prepping for Steve Carell's exit from "The Office" next week, the Dundie Awards episode saw a double-digit decline, while "Parks and Recreation" (5.1 million, 2.5) and the hourlong 100th episode of "30 Rock" (4.5 million, 2.2) were both steady. NBC placed second on the night with a 2.1 in the demo.
Fox won the night in the demo (4.4) and viewers (15.3 million) with "American Idol" (19.6 million, 5.6) paving the way, retaining 96 percent of its audience from last season in 18-49. "Idol" is also up 2 percent in viewership versus the same period. Following "Idol," "Bones" (11.1 million, 3.2) aired the backdoor pilot for "The Finder," starring Geoff Stults, down 9 percent, but was still the most-watched scripted program of the night.
The CW's "The Vampire Diaries" (2.7 million, 1.1), which had a big revelation with pivotal character Klaus, was down with "Nikita" (1.9 million, 0.8) dropping in viewers.

Russell said about his wife: "We see each other once a week. We meet up all the time. She's beautiful. I love having my own little pop star. She's brill." (FYI: "Brill" means "cool.")
The British star has definitely changed his womanizing ways and even toned down his look since becoming involved with Katy, but he insists the transformation was all his doing. He told the Daily Mirror: "Katy's not like that. We wouldn't have got married if we were a couple of bickering little snides. The skinny jeans aren't gone for good. I like my trousers fitted - but I'm in my 30s. It's normal to stop having a mad haircut. Imagine being 70 with that ludicrous nest. It's natural passage of time. Certainly one changes as a result of marriage. If you don't, why do it? Anything that doesn't change you, don't do it. It's pointless."
Russell also said he's anxious to start a family, but he'd be thoroughly disappointed if the little tyke didn't have a British accent. He joked: "Imagine if my children didn't have an Essex accent. I don't think I could take it. My children have got to be born somewhere where it's legitimate for them to support West Ham United. Everything makes me a little homesick. I've become madly patriotic."

The famed filmmaker is next directing the book-to-film "Savages," about pot growers whose girlfriend is held ransom by the Mexican drug cartel to induce them to produce their popular marijuana for their operation. The film, which already cast Taylor Kitsch and Aaron Johnson as the growers and Benicio Del Toro as the cartel leader, has added some more heavy hitters to the cast.
John Travolta will play a burnt out DEA agent, Blake Lively will take on the role of O., the kidnapped girlfriend, and Uma Thurman will play O's mom. The film brings Travolta and Thurman together for the first time since they appeared in "Be Cool" in 2005. Of course, their best known film together is Quentin Tarantino's "Pulp Fiction."
Lively nabbed the part from a number of young actresses vying for the role, including Jennifer Lawrence, who was earlier rumored to be in talks for the gig. It was also reported that Leonardo DiCaprio and James Franco had met with Stone about playing the two pot growers, but the directed ultimately went with younger, lesser-known actors.
"Savages" marks yet another new film for Travolta, who has been cast in the high profile crime family film, "Gotti: Three Generations." Thurman will next appear in the Robert Pattinson-starring historical drama, "Bel Ami," out in May.

"If in fact it was an accident," Sautner said, referring to the defense's argument that Lohan walked out of the store unawares, "she had the phone number and she could have brought it back...There has been testimony [that] five days later she was blocks away [from the store]."
"I see brazenness here," the judge added. "On one hand, I think Ms. Lohan has earned her right for a felony...She has thumbed her nose at the court, she has walked into the court with FU on her fingernails."
But, Sautner said, "I'm going to give her an opportunity."
The jeans-clad Lohan looked nervous as Sautner pointed out her shortcomings, but ultimately the charge was reduced. (Which calls into question whether the case is now one for the L.A. City Attorney's Office instead of the District Attorney's Office, but we'll get back to you on that.)
After defense attorney Shawn Holley said that Lohan would continue to plead not guilty to any theft charge, Sautner set a pretrial hearing for May 11, with a trial to follow on June 3.
Lohan is required to appear in person, Sautner stated.
Holley had moved for a complete dismissal, but Deputy D.A. Danette Meyers argued that Lohan had been on formal probation when she left the Betty Ford Center in January and had 30 days to stay out of trouble.
"And did she do that? No," Meyers said.
"It is undisputed she walked out the store with the necklace," Holley stated on Lohan's behalf, "but what also has to be shown is that she had the intent to permanently deprive the store of the necklace."
Lohan "is photographed everywhere she goes," Holley argued. "She would have to be extremely stupid" to think she could get away with stealing something and then parading around in it, not to mention then hand it over to the LAPD.
"It shows someone who is not trying to hide or conceal something," Holley asserted.
Meyers called four witnesses to the stand today, including two police officers who investigated the allegations; Sofie Kaman, the coowner of Kamofie & Co., the store where Lohan supposedly browsed but did not buy; and sales associate Tinelli Comsooksri.
"We can get into intent," Meyers said in court. "We do that in every case...She walks out of the store. She never comes back. She has the owner's card. She never calls them. She looks well-groomed. She must have looked in the mirror...She knows she has [the necklace] on. Never once does she go back in the store."
"It doesn't take a rocket scientist [to know] that she saw it on the Internet," Meyers added. "She knew she was in trouble when she brought the necklace back."
Still to come, whether or not Lohan has to check into jail tonight for violating probation.

But Lippolis would like people to believe that it was the other way around. In an interview with Star, he claims that Jenni stabbed him in the arm with a kitchen knife after she spotted him chatting with a woman at a Long Island nighclub. And of course Tom took pictures of his wounds, telling Star, "I had no idea what I was going to do with the pictures, but my instinct told me to document everything."
Lippolis admits to lying about his injuries at the hospital, claiming he was trying to protect his ex. Too bad that protective instinct vanished the minute he got the chance to sell her out.
Lonely, existentially-lost boy meets popular-but-dissatisfied girl, creating an unlikely friendship that provides each with the missing piece of their emotionally adrift souls.
Okay, so the basic plot line of 'The Art of Getting By' may not be very original, but that doesn't mean it can't be pretty, fun and maybe even a little bit inspiring, stirring the inner teenager in all of us, whether we read 'The Catcher in the Rye' or 'Gossip Girl.'
Freddie Highmore and Emma Roberts take the guy and girl roles in the new film from writer/director Gavin Wiesen, a Sundance selection that originally was billed as 'Homework.' It was a fitting title -- Highmore plays George, a high school senior with a dim outlook on life and an even dimmer academic record, eschewing what he calls pointless homework for doodling and painting. Roberts takes on Sally, the popular girl who yearns for something more.
It's a return to a very familiar genre and storyline for Roberts, who, before watching the blood fly in 'Scream 4,' starred in 'It's Kind of a Funny Story,' about a disturbed teenage guy who finds Roberts as a love interest.
It's a big step for Highmore, who starred in 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, 'The Golden Compass,' and as the voice of Astroboy.
Michael Angarano and Elizabeth Reaser co-star as adults of varying integrity.
'The Art of Getting By' will be released in theaters, in limited selection on Friday, June 17.

Courteney Cox was worried David Arquette was gay when she thought he had downloaded an iPhone dating application.
The 'Scream 4' actress - who is currently separated from her husband - became nervous when she saw someone had downloaded Grindr, a phone app which allows gay men to see other gay men nearby, on her iTunes account, and she automatically assumed it was him.
Speaking on 'Jimmy Kimmel Live', she said: "I was going on to the iTunes store to buy some music just the other day and I'm so behind the times I was buying a song and it said, 'You've already purchased this.' I was thinking to myself, 'No I haven't.' And then I thought it must be David because we have the same account.
And I was like, 'Wow, what if you actually don't know the person you've been with for that long.' What if David is buying Grindr? It's a gay website where you punch something in and see if there's another guy in your neighbourhood.
"So I went on to view the history to see what other songs he had downloaded because he's hip! And I was like, oh wow, there's a lot of books. Then there were some songs and then it said, 'Grindr, to find the same sex in your neighbourhood.'
"And I was like, 'Wow, what if you actually don't know the person you've been with for that long.' What if David is buying Grindr? It's a gay website where you punch something in and see if there's another guy in your neighbourhood."
However, the 46-year-old star - who has six-year-old daughter Coco with David - was relieved when she found out it was her assistant, although he initially denied it.
She laughed: "So I called up my assistant who happens to be gay and I asked him, 'Did you happen to buy a thing on our iTunes thing.' He said, 'Nope!' And I was like, 'Really, you didn't make one purchase?' and he just said, 'No Courteney.' And I'm saying, 'Come on buddy, I won't get mad, just tell me about it! You got one thing, you got Grindr!' and he was like, 'Oh yeah, yeah, that was a free app!' And I was like, 'Thank you.' That would have been so terrible."
